Slov-Lex – Legislative and Information Portal of the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic

This portal provides professionals and general public with electronic access to applicable law and all the relevant information regarding law. It provides lawmakers with effective legislative tools too.

The portal also enables the public to acquaint itself with proposed bills and take an active role in the law-making process using commenting tools. One of the greatest advantages of the system, however, is publishing of set versions of legal enactments. This permits its users to get easily familiar with numerous changes and amendments. Moreover, this system allows one to display, print or otherwise process the content of a legal enactment in its subsequently amended forms.

e-Collection and e-Legislation are two closely linked modules which form the main part of the portal.

The e-Collection module enables free access to the legal system of the Slovak Republic at any time, regardless of geographical location. It offers the following features:

  • fast and efficient search engine to find electronically signed PDF versions of legal acts with both informative and legally binding content
  • chronological register of legal acts as published in the Collection of Laws of the Slovak Republic
  • discussion on legal acts
  • archive - a compressed file of the Collection of Laws of the Slovak Republic since 1918

Rights holders such as government bodies, state administration bodies, local authorities, bodies of judicial authority, professionals working in the field of law (e.g. lawyers, notaries, experts, etc.), freelancers, entrepreneurs (physical and legal entities) and other citizens form the target group of users of the e-Collection module.

The primary function of the e-Legislation module is to provide its users with access to the law-making process at any time, regardless of geographical location. It offers the following features:

  • fast and efficient search engine to find ongoing legislative processes and comments
  • discussion on legislative processes
  • preliminary information

Legislative bodies, such as the Government, the Legislative Council of the Slovak Government, the Slovak National Council, the president, and other approximately 30 entities, parties to the commenting proceedings, professionals working in the field of law (e.g. lawyers, notaries, experts, etc.), freelancers, entrepreneurs (physical and legal entities) and other citizens form the target group of users of the e-Legislation module.

This portal consists of other individual modules too and Slovak Law Thesaurus is one of them. It is a dictionary of legal terms as used in the law system of the Slovak Republic; it is mainly used in applied practice.

This module offers a list of thesauri where users can find legal terms and their definitions. It also allows its users to search for legal terms and their meanings individually.

EU Law is another module on the Slov-Lex portal. It allows its users to search for or browse EU legislation.

The module of Implementing Regulations provides measures and collections enacted by ministries and other central public administration offices. It allows users to view enacted measures in chronological order as well as to search for them by means of a search engine.

The Court Rulings module allows users to search for decisions of Slovak general courts, European Court of Human Rights and European Court of Justice.
